Moscow, on February, 4th, 2012. Temperature in the street a minus of 18-20 degrees of Celsius. The people against Putin.
!!! CORRECTION !!!
This photo is actually from December 25, 1991, when Mikhail Gorbachev resigned as president of the Soviet Union, declaring the office extinct and dissolving the USSR.
But there really was a big rally yesterday in Moscow, looked more like this :

Sorry for the mis-information, I got the photo from Occupy Canada’s facebook, who got it from Occupy Russia, but it was a mistake!

Today was the Occupy Wall Street West day of action against the disastrous Citizens United Supreme Court decision that gave corporations the same free speech rights as people. (Jan 21 is the decision’s 2-year anniversary.) Rainforest Action Network and The Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment joined with Occupy Wall St. West to conduct a “man” hunt for Mr. Bank O. America, a corporate “person” who is considered an extreme menace to society.

Via Understory:

Wanted: Mr. Bank O. America, Menace To Society

This morning, we conducted a manhunt in San Francisco. Or, I should say, a “man” hunt.

If corporations are people, then this Mr. Bank O. America fellow is a clear and present danger to society, and he must be brought to justice. So we teamed up with The Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, rounded up a posse, and searched the streets of San Francisco for this fugitive from justice.

We went to several of his known hangouts (otherwise known as Bank of America branches) with a citizen’s arrest warrant in hand. But the perp had flown the coop before we got to each location.

Just to make sure Mr. Bank O. America’s crime spree is brought to an end as soon as possible, we pasted the arrest warrant all over town. If he exists — which I’m beginning to doubt — we’ll catch him.

Just what are Mr. Bank O. America’s crimes? It’s a long list. He’s a tax cheat who made off with BILLIONS in taxpayer dollars, even while he was putting thousands of Americans out of work by helping crash our economy. He’s a notorious bankroller of the dirtiest energy source — coal — and is thus responsible for poisoning countless communities across the States. And he has outright stolen more of America’s homes than any other bank-person-thing (sorry, the metaphor kinda broke down there — see how ridiculous the idea of corporate personhood is?).

Footage from yesterday at the OccupyBerlin in Platz der Republik in front of the parliament building in Berlin. In this clip, we can see the police forcibly removing any attempt to install tents and a real occupation ground. Later that night, the remaining protesters were brutally removed from the lawn. A friend of mine, a short iranian young women, got punched in the face by a policeman, and there were many reports of pepperspraying and rubber bullet fire. We came back this afternoon, a general assembly was held and it was decided that we would organize for an actual occupation tomorrow and that there would also be a permanent hour of the day for general assemblies also for those who can’t or don’t wish to stay there 24/7.

#OccupyBerlin: 5000 people in Berlin, Germany protest in solidarity with the global outcry against capitalism emulating the OccupyWallstreet movement in NYC and around the world.
Following the call for global mobilization against capitalism, five thousand people held a peaceful protest in Berlin today and tonight. Starting in Alexanderplatz they marched towards the german house of parliament, the Bundestag. There they attempted to plant tents and occupy the lawn in front of the building. There was a second camp and protest set up in Mariannenplatz, the heart of Kreuzberg. But they were quickly interrupted by the police who confiscated several tents. According to the twitter feed #occupy_berlin, and the blog occupyberlin.wordpress.com, protesters were peaceful and organising into working groups and holding a general assembly while the police repeatedly harrassed them with pepperspray and even finally shot rubber bullets at them. It is unclear whether the occupants are still on the lawn as I write this, but I know from friends in the protest that many retreated back to their homes for the night (it’s frickin freezing out there) but the organizers called for mass demonstrations all over Berlin first thing in the morning. #OccupyBerlin #OccupyWallstreet

Taken minutes ago in front of the Reichstag in Berlin at the Occupy Berlin demonstration. From what I hear there have been attempts to plant tents but the cops immediately confiscated them. I also heard an infopoint is being set up in Mariannenplatz in Kreuzberg. #Occupy

#OccupyWallStreet seems to be a new phenomenon in that we are witnessing a first generation in which massive numbers of young white people are no longer experiencing the economic benefits of the capitalist system. Their working class parents have had their homes foreclosed, their school loans cant be paid because they too now are unemployed or underpaid in the shrinking job market. Their reality has gotten closer to what black and brown folks have lived for many many years. There is a blatant economic inequality in this country and it is a result of corporate Wall St greed. The middle class is almost extinct as most people nowadays are working merely to survive and pay bills. We encourage folks to support the occupations and see them for themselves.
